Hi, I'm Austin Barnes. I'm the managing partner of Water Pros Plumbing located in Gilbert, Arizona, and I built WaterHeaterChecker.com because my own technicians kept running into the same problem on every service call: a customer asks "how old is my water heater?", and the only way to answer was to squint at a faded serial number sticker and try to remember which brand encodes the date with letters, which uses weeks, and which one made the format up on a whim in 2007.

I wanted something a tech could pull up on their phone in 10 seconds, type the serial in, and get a real answer. Not a login. Not a paywall. Not a sales pitch. Just the date the tank rolled off the line and a rough estimate of how much life it has left.

That tool turned out to be useful for homeowners too. So we opened it up to anyone, kept it free, and added more brands as we ran into them in the field.

How we make money

The tool is and always will be free. The site is supported by display ads and by affiliate partnerships with home warranty companies and lead-matching services (like Angi) that connect homeowners with local plumbers when their water heater is at end of life. We only partner with services we'd be comfortable referring a neighbor to. We never sell your serial number, email, or any data you submit.

Other sites we run

If you also own a furnace, heat pump, or central air conditioner, you may find our sister site useful: HVACChecker.com. Same idea, same team, built for HVAC equipment instead of water heaters.

Thanks for using the site. If it saved you a service call or just helped you settle a "do we replace it or not?" argument with your spouse, that's exactly why we built it.
